Two bursaries for the 2023 European Drugs Summer School (EDSS) are currently being offered through EMCDDA’s EU4Monitoring Drugs II (EU4MD II) project. Professionals, academics or experts from the European Neighbourhood Policy area are encouraged to apply.
The EDSS, organised by the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL) and the EMCDDA, will be delivered face to face in Lisbon from 26 June–7 July 2023. With the overall theme of ‘Illicit drugs in Europe: demand, supply and public policies’, the course will focus specifically on mental health and drug-related issues.
The EDSS will include lectures with experts and practitioners, study visits to project sites and individual exercises (see full programme).
Completion of a written test at the end of the course is compulsory for those wishing to obtain credits. The course will be conducted in English; therefore, students should have a good written and spoken level of the language.
To apply for an EU4MD II bursary, candidates from the ENP area should register for the EDSS directly on the ISCTE-IUL website.
Registration deadline: 29.05.2023. Registration may close before this date if all places are filled.
The two EU4MD II bursaries cover the registration fee, return flights, accommodation and per diem. Individuals from the following ENP partners are eligible to apply: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, Palestine*, Tunisia and Ukraine.
Funded by the European Union, the EU4MD II project will run from 2023 until the end of 2027. The project supports national and regional readiness to identify and respond to drug-related security and health threats (see objectives).
To date, over a dozen experts and drug professionals from multiple ENP partners have had the opportunity to attend the European Drugs Winter School and European Drugs Summer School, thanks to EU4MD project bursaries.
